New Clinical Education Center For Nursing Students
8/19/2025
Merit Health Wesley officials, joined by nursing school leaders from the University of Southern Mississippi, William Carey University and Pearl River Community College, celebrate the opening of the new Clinical Education Center for nursing students at the hospital.
"Our partners in nursing education are vital for creating a strong, well-prepared, and innovative nursing workforce that can effectively meet the evolving needs of the healthcare system," said Travis Sisson, chief executive officer of Merit Health Wesley. "We created this space to enhance the education and training of the nursing students who learn at our hospital and to help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application."
The Education Center at Merit Health Wesley was designed to support discussion, case review, and collaborative learning, essentially the “thinking and talking” counterpart to the hands-on clinical experience. It serves as a comfortable, quiet, and distraction-free environment for professional discussion and encourages teamwork, clinical reasoning, and reflective practice.
"This innovative space brings students together in a professional, collaborative environment to study, host guest speakers, and extend learning beyond the classroom," said Rachael Williams, chief nursing officer. "Equipped with seating for 22, a digital monitor, charging stations, a dry erase wall, kitchenette access, and courtyard views, it’s an exciting new hub for growth and connection for our students."
