Meet the Eubank Family
Brad and Rebecca Eubank and children, William, 10, Matthew, 8, and Emma, 1.
Rebecca knew that her baby would arrive early. So it gave her peace of mind to know that the Merit Health Wesley Birth Center has a specialized unit for newborns who need extra help. And when Emma was born 11 weeks early, both she and her mom received remarkable care. "My doctor went above and beyond," said Rebecca. "And the nurses in the Neonatal ICU were fabulous. They treated Emma with extreme care and love. Not only did we receive the precious gift of Emma while we were there, but we also made lifelong friendships."
Briefly describe the circumstances surrounding your pregnancy and the birth of your daughter.
At the end of December, I had some blood pressure issues, and my doctor placed me on limited activity. I tried to take it easy. Even with medicine my blood pressure was extremely high. I went to the hospital Friday, January 10th. After testing and constant blood pressure readings, I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and had an emergency C-section two days later.
Why did you choose Merit Health Wesley?
When we moved here due to my husband's job, I asked for recommendations for a doctor from church members. Not long after that I became pregnant.
Will you continue to see your doctor and use this hospital, if needed?
Yes I will. My doctor was an answer to prayers during this pregnancy. Emma was not in our plans. When I found out I was pregnant it was a complete shock. My doctor sat in the room with me until my husband could get there. I was completely shocked and didn't know what to do. My doctor was the peace that I needed through the entire pregnancy. Once we realized Emma would make her appearance early, he again became my calm. He reassured us that Merit Health Wesley was prepared for a baby coming this early. He explained what would probably happen when she got here so we would feel more comfortable with the situation. He came in on his day off to deliver Emma.
Did your experience meet or exceed your expectations?
I loved my experience at Merit Health Wesley's Birth Center. The very first person who took care of me was perfect. She stayed with me, reassured me, and treated me like a person not a job. Every nurse that came in my room was kind and caring. Even the ladies that cleaned my room were kind to us: asking about Emma and how she was doing. The nurse stayed on after she was finished with her shift the day Emma came. Emma was born at 8:14 on Sunday morning, and she stayed with Brad in the hall until it was time to come in, and she was able to be right there beside us during delivery. She became a member of our family.
The NICU nurses were fabulous. They treated Emma with extreme care and love. They gave updates anytime I called. I was not treated like a burden, but a mom. I can never repay them for the care they gave Emma when I couldn't be there. I will be forever grateful.
Would you recommend your doctor and Merit Health Wesley to someone else?
Yes I would. The Merit Health Wesley's Birth Center is caring and loving. My doctor went above and beyond his duty as a doctor. I felt cared for and loved. I never questioned if he was doing the right thing. I was comfortable in his hands, and the NICU was great for Emma.
What meant the most to you during your experience?
We enjoyed the fact that Merit Health Wesley is a more intimate setting due to the fact that it was a smaller hospital. The staff treat you with respect and go above the call to treat you well.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I loved my experience at Merit Health Wesley's Birth Center. Not only did we receive the precious gift of Emma while we were there but we also received lifelong friendships. We bring Emma up to the NICU for the ladies to see her as she grows. We brought them some cake on her birthday to celebrate with the ones who were there. My doctor was the perfect doctor for me. He came to my room every day to check on me and would sit and take time to talk to us. He didn't breeze in and out. He took time, which in my opinion, is priceless. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
